What is Abhyanga?

Abhyanga is one of the oldest oil massage traditions in the world. Learn how this Ayurvedic full-body oil massage nourishes skin, joints, and spirit.

Abhyanga is one of the oldest oil massage traditions in the world. In the Charaka Samhita scriptures, it is described as daily self-care that nourishes skin, joints, and spirit. At Ayuasana, we use warm oil attuned to your body type — Vata, Pitta, or Kapha. Every session begins with a conversation so your therapist can select the right oil, room temperature, and technique.

The tradition of Abhyanga stretches back thousands of years. In India, it is considered part of the daily routine — called Dinacharya. The warm oil penetrates deep into the skin, releases tension, and calms the nervous system. After a session, many guests report a feeling of deep rest and clarity.

At Ayuasana, we take our time for every session. There is no rush, no loud music — just warm oil, mindful hands, and the stillness the body needs.
