Ayurveda in Summer — Calming Pitta

Summer is Pitta season. Learn how cooling practices, the right diet, and mindful rituals can help you through the warm months.

In Ayurveda, summer is the time when Pitta — the fire element — is strongest. The heat outside amplifies the heat within us. This can manifest as irritability, skin issues, heartburn, or sleep disturbances.

Cooling practices help keep Pitta in balance. These include:

• Coconut oil instead of sesame oil for self-massage
• Cooling foods like cucumber, mint, coriander, and sweet fruits
• Exercise in the cool morning hours instead of midday heat
• Moon breath (Chandra Bhedana) — inhaling through the left nostril
• Light meals, not too spicy

At Ayuasana, we adjust our Abhyanga sessions in summer: cooler oil, gentler pressure, adapted room temperature. This way the body finds its rest even in the hot season.

Summer is an invitation to slow down. Not to fight the heat but to flow with it — that is the Ayurvedic way.
