You have decided to book your first Ayurveda massage – and yet a few questions are still floating around in your head. What should I wear? Can I shower afterwards? Do I need to bring my own towels? And how does the whole privacy thing work? That is completely normal. This little guide is here for exactly those last small uncertainties, so you can arrive at your appointment in Cologne-Ehrenfeld relaxed and without any question marks.
First Ayurveda massage: what to wear?
The most common question beforehand is: what do I wear for my first Ayurveda massage? The good news: you really do not need to worry about it. Simply wear something comfortable that feels good on the way over – jogging bottoms, a soft jumper, whatever means relaxation to you.
For the massage itself: during a classic Abhyanga, warm oil is generously applied to the skin. That is why the treatment takes place without clothing, or reduced to a minimum – exactly as feels right for you. You are covered with towels the whole time; only the area being worked on is ever uncovered.
Underwear – yes or no?
Many guests wear underwear during the treatment that is allowed to get some oil on it. Feel free to bring an old, dark piece you do not mind. Everything is possible, nothing is required – you decide what feels comfortable for you. There is no right or wrong.
What to bring – and what you don't need
Everything is provided at the practice. Still, here is a little orientation:
- Towels, oil cloths and fresh linen are all supplied. You do not need to bring anything.
- A hair tie is handy if you have longer hair – during a head massage, oil can get into your hair.
- A little time afterwards. Plan the appointment so you do not have to rush off straight away. The calm wind-down is part of the experience.
- Little to no strong perfume. Ayurveda works with warm, natural oils and their own scent – too much perfume simply overpowers it.
If you like, you can bring a change of clothes. It is not necessary, but some guests just feel a bit fresher in something clean after the massage.
Showering after the massage – a good idea or not?
Another classic first-timer question: can I shower after an Ayurveda massage? In principle, yes. That said, many people enjoy leaving the warm oil on the skin for a while and letting the warmth linger before they shower. It is purely a matter of taste.
If you need somewhere to freshen up right after the appointment, just let me know in advance – we will sort it out easily. Keep in mind that oil on the skin can make clothing slightly greasy, so something comfortable and dark for the journey home is often more pleasant.
How does the first appointment work?
So that you have a clear picture, here is the rough flow:
1. Arriving and a short chat
At the start we take a moment. You tell me how you are feeling, what you would like from the treatment and whether you have any particular preferences – for example, more or less pressure. This is not a medical consultation, simply your space to arrive.
2. The treatment
Then the massage itself begins. During an Abhyanga I work with warm oil and calm, flowing movements. You lie comfortably covered, the room is quiet, and you are free to simply let go. If anything is too much or too little, say so at any point – your feedback is always welcome.
3. Resting afterwards
After the massage you get a moment to slowly come back. Nothing needs to be rushed. This lingering afterwards is a big part of the soothing, relaxing experience.
Discretion and a comfortable atmosphere
Ayuasana is a small, personal practice in Cologne-Ehrenfeld – not a busy studio full of people. You have peace and quiet, entirely to yourself, and everything takes place in a protected, discreet setting. Treatments are strictly by appointment, so no one meets anyone they would rather not. Your wellbeing and your boundaries always come first.
It is completely fine to feel a little nervous the first time. Just tell me what matters to you – whether that is warmth, music, volume or pace. Real relaxation grows out of that mutual trust.
In short
- What to wear: Something comfortable for the way over; for the treatment, as much or as little as feels right – you are always covered with towels.
- What to bring: Nothing essential – a hair tie and some spare time are nice-to-haves. Towels are provided.
- Showering: Possible afterwards, though many enjoy the oil's warmth for a while first.
- Discretion: Small practice, by appointment only, entirely to yourself.
